No Final Exam
Students will have ample time to rehearse two released exams while attending school. These exams will be thoroughly reviewed with the students. There will also be a couple of Saturdays sessions held at school to reinforce some test strategies and techniques on the AP Calculus AB Exam.
After AP test we will cover topics dropped from the test – Integration by Parts and Integration by Partial Functions
Teaching Strategy:
Most sessions are taught using a one-day lecture followed by one or two days of classroom activity where students will work independently and in pairs to share for the remaining class time.
Lessons are presented using document reader of lectures prepared by the teacher. Students are encouraged to participate by asking questions at any time. Students are provided with step-by-step instructions when working on graphics calculator related problems with their TI-84.
During non-lecture days and lab hours, students are strongly recommended to work in groups of three or four to complete their assignments guided by the teacher when necessary.
Multiple Approaches:
Students are fostered to justify their answer for any problem in four distinct ways: analytically, numerically, graphically and verbally. Since this will be required on Chapter tests, students must learn and comprehend these approaches for success.
Assessments:

At the end of every chapter there will be a full period test
Quizzes 30%
There will be a short quiz weekly to assess knowledge of content covered in that week.
Homework 20%
Homework will be collected weekly and graded by the work and justification shown to complete the problems.
Classwork 10%
There will be a daily “Do Now” quiz question on material from the previous day.

Algebra 1 is a prerequisite for this course. It is expected that you have a good, general knowledge of the principles and practice of Algebra 1. The summer packet that was assigned is required work covering critical parts of your first marking period grade.
Honors Algebra 2 is designated to provide the basis of advanced mathematics course work in high school or college, prepare you for the SAT, HSPA, College entrance exams, and build your high school transcript with an academically challenging mathematics course. The textbook for this class is Schultz, Ellis et al, Algebra 2 Holt, Rinehart and Winston, 2001. The textbook will be used in class daily. The textbook, as well as homework help and a parent guide, is available online. Other materials you will need are:

Student Responsibilities
1. Homework must be completed each night. Homework, where every
problem is attempted and worked through, will be considered as
“completed”. Please be sure to write the date and page number on each
assignment.
2. Participation/preparation will be determined based on:
· Asking and/or answering questions. (There is no penalty for an
incorrect answer, therefore you have nothing to lose!)
· Putting homework problems on the board.
· Listening attentively to instructions and allowing classmates to do the
same without distractions.
· Helping classmates and/or asking a classmate for help in a cooperative
learning group.
3. It is important to make up any missed work during absences. If it is at all
possible, it would be in your best interest to phone a classmate and/or
check the homework website to keep up with homework each night.
4. It is your responsibility to make up any missed tests or quizzes as soon as
possible.
5. It is very important that you come to me immediately whenever you have
a problem of any kind.(i.e.: needing your seat changed, if you can’t see
the board, if you are not feeling well, etc.)
6. It is very important and a sign of maturity to come for extra help as soon
as something is unclear. Do not wait until you are totally lost, or until it is
too late.
Grading Policy
Homework:
20% of the grade – Homework is checked daily. Occasionally it will be collected and graded.
Class Participation/Class work:
10% of the grade - As evidenced by asking and responding to questions, offering relevant comments and respecting the teacher’s authority and school property. Preparedness. Completion of class assignments. Also includes weekly “Do Now” quiz grades
Tests:
40% of the grade - Includes unit/chapter tests, and long-term projects.
Quizzes:
30% of the grade – Includes section quizzes.
