MQ3 REMINDERS:

CURRENT REMINDERS:

lesson first, and then answer 10 questions in test mode. This will count as a graded assignment.
THE WEBSITE TO COMPLETE THIS ASSIGNMENT IS: www.studyisland.com.

****PERIOD 3 (HONORS) ONLY: MQ2 Book Report

Every night, students should be reading ther science fiction/fantasy novels. Criteria on how to complete the science fiction/fantasy
magazine project has been given to students in class, as well as the grading rubric. Students have approximately 7 weeks to read their book and complete the magazine project. The final project is due on Friday, January 13th. If any student loses the project outline, they should see me to obtain another one.

CURRENT EVENTS HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENTS:

Every Monday, students will be assigned a Current Events homework assignment. These assignments will be due every Monday. Students will have a week to complete the assignment. For example: If a current events assignment is assigned on Monday, September 19th, the actual assignment will be due the following Monday, September 26th. Under no circumstances will current events assignments be accepted late, unless a student is absent the day it is due. In that case, the assignment will be due in class upon the student's return from being absent. If school is ever closed on a Monday, then the current events assignment will be due the following day (Tuesday).

Students must obtain a nonfiction article from either a newspaper or a magazine. Students can read about what they are interested in, as long as the article is age appropriate. However, students should read an array of different topics, not just reading about one topic in particular every week. After students read an article, they must fill in the graphic organizer first (which will be given to students in class). After filling in the graphic organizer with the 5W's and the How, on a separate sheet of paper, they are to write a 1 paragraph summary including the 5W's and the How from the graphic organizer. Students are basically taking the notes from the graphic organizer and putting it into paragraph form. Students should begin their summaries with the title of the article and work their way in order from the Who ending their summary with the How. After writing the summary, students are to write a second paragraph with their reactions and comments based on the article read. ALL ARTICLES STUDENTS READ MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE CURRENT EVENTS ASSIGNMENT. FAILURE TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN THE STUDENT RECEIVING A ZERO FOR THAT ASSIGNMENT.  Students should have a sample copy of a summary that was modeled in class in their notebooks in order to help them with this assignment.

***Extra help is offered on an as needed basis, only in the afternoon (except for Monday or Wednesday). No extra help will be offered in the morning. I strongly encourage students, who feel
they need extra help, to come and utilize the time provide by me.

Materials needed daily:

1. A three subject notebook designated for language arts only. A binder can also be used as long as the student has three designated sections for language arts.

2. A separate notebook that will be kept in class for journal entries. Students can either use a
black and white marble composition notebook or a 1-subject notebook.

3. A separate folder to hold all important documents given to students throughout the year is strongly advised unless the three-subject notebook already has folders in it.

4. Pen (blue or black ink only)- Students MUST bring more than 1 pen to class each day. The only time students are allowed to use a pencil in language arts is when they are taking notes in their notebooks. Otherwise, a pen must be used at all times.
